Snow Golems are a unique type of utility mob in Minecraft. They offer virtually no combat ability (outside of Blazes) but they do make great companions if you choose to live in a Snow Biome. Let’s explore how to create a Snow Golem as well as how you can remove their pumpkin heads to make them look a bit more human!
How To Build A Snow Golem
To build a snow golem you’re going to need the following materials.
- 2 Snow Blocks
- 1 Carved Pumpkin OR Jack O’ Lantern
You can’t build a snow golem with a standard pumpkin sadly it has to be carved. After you have obtained the materials stack the two snow blocks on top of one another. After that simply place the carved pumpkin or Jack O’ Lantern on top of it and you should now have a snow golem! Now that you have one let’s look at some of the interesting things that you can do to interact with a Snow Golem.
Did You Know Their Pumpkin Head Can Be Removed?
So, the Pumpkin Head acts more like a helmet and it can be removed if you have a pair of sheers. If you have a pair of sheers walk up to your snow golem and right-click it. Removing the pumpkin has no negative effects to it other than they may or may not look as cool!
You Can Attach Them To Leads
Leads are interesting you can use them to drag your “unwanted” snow golems into water or lava or even a pit! However, it’s also a great way of keeping your snow golems on a tight leash. You see, traditionally snow golems wander anywhere while they tend to avoid cliffs, water, etc they don’t stick around. If you want to keep one as a companion or pet simply attach a lead to them and then tie it to a fence!
- Keep in mind though that if your base is not in a snow biome and it rains you will want to build a cover for it. Otherwise, they will melt and you will need to make another one!
Closing Thoughts
Snow Golems are a great utility mob if you’re creative you can actually make a nice little village with them in a snow biome and you can keep them under control using leads. You can even make them look more human-like by removing their pumpkins by using sheers which is an interesting feature that Mojang implemented. Keep in mind though that Snow Golems can’t be built everywhere and will only survive in a Biome where the temperature is 0.8 or below (including The End).
