Minecraft: How to Tame and Ride a Llama

Llamas are animals in Minecraft, usually found in the Savannah biome or the Extreme Hills biome. To tame a llama, you do not need any special things in your inventory, like to tame a llama you need a raw fish, or to tame a parrot, you need some sort of seed.

To tame the llama you will continuously use your hand to sit on the llama and get bucked off. The game control commands to sit on the llama, depend on your version of Minecraft.

  • For PC/Mac, right click on the llama.
  • For Pocket Edition (PE), you move your pointer over the llama and press the Mount button.
  • For PS3 and PS4, press the L2 button on the PS controller.
  • For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press the LT button on the Xbox controller.
  • For Windows 10 Edition, right click on the llama.
  • For Wii U, press the ZL button on the gamepad.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.
  • For Education Edition, right click on the llama.

The llama will continuously buck you off and each time you mount it, it will let you stay a little longer. Eventually, you will see red hearts around the llama and that means the llama is tamed.

Now that the llama is tamed, you still cannot mount on it until you learn the game commands, which very dependent on your version of Minecraft.

  • For PC/Mac, right click on the llama.
  • For Pocket Edition (PE), you move your pointer over the llama and press the Mount button.
  • For PS3 and PS4, press the L2 button on the PS controller.
  • For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press the LT button on the Xbox controller.
  • For Windows 10 Edition, right click on the llama.
  • For Wii U, press the ZL button on the gamepad.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.
  • For Education Edition, right click on the llama.

After you mount the llama, you will move around with it. You will not be able to control the movements of the llama.

To dismount the llama, do the following, depending on your Minecraft version.

  • For PC/Mac, press the left shift key.
  • For Pocket Edition (PE), press the Center button (ie: crouch/sneak button) twice.
  • For PS3 and PS4, press the Right Stick (RS) on the PS controller.
  • For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press the Right Stick (RS) on the Xbox controller.
  • Windows 10 Edition, press the left shift key.
  • For Wii U, press the Right Stick (RS) on the gamepad.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press the Right Stick (RS) on the controller.
  • For Education Edition, press the left shift key.

Now you are able to tame, mount, and dismount a llama!
