Funcom In Trouble Financially

Age Of Conan

Funcom is known for its amazing titles that have changed the face of the industry for both console gamers, and for MMO gamers. Funcom has developed several large titles such as Anarchy Online, Age of Conan, and The Secret World. However, it seems that the famed developer is in some hot water when it comes to its financial reports. Funcom has been losing money and it has lost more than 50% of its earnings over the past two years.

A new post on the Funcom Investor Relations board reveals some interesting information that appears to show Funcom is in trouble.

Following the completion and launch of the LEGO Minifigures Online game, and based on the situation described in the stock notice from Funcom issued on 23 July this year, Funcom N.V. (hereafter the “Company”) has retained ABG Sundal Collier to undertake a broad review of the strategic options available to the Company. The Company is actively seeking interested parties for discussions surrounding a possible investment, acquisition, merger, or any other available options.

Funcom will update the market about the outcome of the review and potential other developments in due course.

There is a lot of speculation of what will happen to Funcom many are wondering what this will do to their games such as Anarchy Online which has released a major update recently improving the graphics of the game dramatically. It also makes us wonder what will happen to The Secret World which is still receiving a lot of development.

In my opinion they will either have to pull a move like Sony Online Entertainment did or it will be the end of several of the best titles in the MMO genre.
