When the script was done and the shooting was about to begin for Deadpool, 20th Century Fox wasn’t going to pay the writers Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick to be on set. Which sounds a little crazy but then surprisingly Ryan Reynolds ended up paying for them himself.
In an interview with AMC’s Geeking Out both Reese and Wernick stated that they were on set because of Ryan’s generosity (in the form of their payment).
“We were on set every day,” they said. “Interestingly, Ryan wanted us there; we were on the project for six years. It was really a core creative team of us, Ryan, and the director Tim Miller. Fox interestingly wouldn’t pay for us to be on set. Ryan Reynolds paid out of his own money, out of his own pocket.”
Reese and Wernick are also expected to write for the upcoming Deadpool 2 movie and a movie that is passed on Ubisoft’s Watch Dog series.
Shooting for the second installment is expected to start early 2017 and while the cast has yet to be announced Stephen Lang has expressed his interest in playing the time-travelling character Cable.
