After stepping down from the role of president, Daybreak’s John Smedley has now left the company completely. His previous plan was for him to take a leave from the company and return in a different role.
Daybreak has confirmed though that Smedley has left the company and didn’t offer a reason for why he was moving on.
Smedley initially stepped away from his role after being repeatedly harassed by Lizard Squad member Julius “Zeekill” Kivimaki. Smedley stated that it was Julius who was responsible for the actions of grounding his flight, releasing his contact information and more personal details to everyone. In other words, Smedley has had his entire life ruined and ripped to shreds by a little script kiddy who received no jail time for his actions.
While Smedley has left Daybreak it was announced that he took the position of CEO with a new company. This is according to a post on his Facebook page but it fails to offer any specifics on the company other than it was based in San Diego, which is also where Daybreak was located.
Smedley has been with Daybreak/Sony Online Entertainment for almost 2 decades and has been around long enough to be liked as well as hated by many of the players of their games. He was also blamed for the Combat Upgrade for Star Wars Galaxies as well as most of the other poor decisions by the company. That being said, Smedley has had his life turned upside down and the kid responsible was not punished fairly.
