So, let’s talk about Horse Armor can you make your own? Are there multiple types and where can it be found in the open?

No, Horse Armor Is No Longer Craftable

Horse Armor was originally introduced in 1.6.1 (13w16a). There were three types of armor included (Iron, Gold Diamond). However, in a following release 1.6.1 (13w18a) the ability to craft the armor was taken out. There was no longer a recipe for horse armor in the game.

So, you are currently not able to craft horse armor in any version of Minecraft. So, no matter what anything says online you are currently not able to craft Armor in Vanilla Minecraft on the latest version.

So, Where Can I find it?

Well, drop rates are super complicated. However, the wiki provides some useful information regarding this.

Leather Horse Armor

Leather armor can only be found by trading 6 emeralds to an expert-level leatherworker villager.

Iron Horse Armor

Now Iron Horse Armor can be found in the world in various chests located in various temples. Iron horse armor can be found in 2.5% of stronghold altar chests, 5.7% of village weaponsmith chests, 21.8% of dungeon chests, 19.0% of fortress chests, 4.5% of jungle temple chests, 18.0% of desert temple chests, and 4.6% of End city chests.

Gold Horse Armor

The same goes for Gold Horse Armor it can be found in the following locations. Golden horse armor can be found in 2.5% of stronghold altar chests, 5.7% of village weaponsmith chests, 14.9% of dungeon chests, 29.1% of fortress chests, 4.5% of jungle temple chests, 12.3% of desert temple chests, and 4.6% of End city chests.

Diamond Horse Armor

Finally, Diamond Horse Armor is found in the following locations. Diamond horse armor can be found in 2.5% of stronghold altar chests, 5.7% of village weaponsmith chests, 7.7% of dungeon chests, 11.8% of fortress chests, 4.5% of jungle temple chests, 6.3% of desert temple chests, and 4.6% of End city chests.
