Minecraft How To Tame A Wolf (Dog)

Minecraft Wolf Pup

Wolfs also sometimes called dogs are an interesting tameable animal in Minecraft. There are several benefits to taming Wolfs as opposed to some other animals (looking at you Parrots). I will go into these benefits after explaining how to tame the animal.

Wolfs can be tamed by feeding them bones (which drop off skeletons when you kill them). You should only need a single bone but stock up on them anyway as bones have several benefits to them.

Now you need to use the bones on the wolf which can be done in a couple of ways depending on what system you are playing Minecraft on.

  • For PC/Mac, right click on the parrot.
  • For PS3 and PS4, press the L2 button on the PS controller.
  • For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press the LT button on the Xbox controller.
  • For Wii U, press the ZL button on the gamepad.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.

After using the bones you will know you’re successful because there will be little hearts that come off the Wolf indicating that it likes you and it will start following you. Wolfs come with benefits that are not common in many other tameable monsters they will defend you from attacks, on anything that you attack but they will not attack Creepers (which arguably is for the best). The wolf will never attack the player unless he/she attacks the wolf first.

Additionally, you can tell a tamed wolf to sit or stay by using the same command as you used to tame it above. Keep in mind the Wolf will not follow you until you use that same command where it will stand back up.
